It's been a bad day.

I woke up at 6 am. The kids were up at 6:30 am. Everything was going fine.

Until we did math today, for whatever reason Camille quit. Granted, we have Bible then Math so we weren't too far into the day when trouble hit. She just sat there, acting like she was waiting for something. Instead of doing the "homework" thing where I've told her she has so much time to accomplish her work then she has to do it after our lessons on her own. I didn't do that, I knew I should have and just moved on. BUT she asked for it to be homework and some switch clicked in my head and decided, "oh no, that is NOT going to happen". 1 hour later, she finishes her math work after being told repeatedly to get to work. Wasted time on both hers and my end and that frustrates me. I know it was my fault, I just didn't want to do anything about it. I get tired of 'doing something about it'.

She finished her Bible, math, independent reading, handwriting work today along with going through her spelling flashcards. I didn't leave the room, which means housework didn't get done while I dealt with her "goofing" off. It was lunch time when I quit. We didn't do history, french, grammar or music. She is now at 5:30 pm practicing her piano. She's been busy, scrubbing the tub, sweeping the floors, folding laundry, cleaning her room but guess what! She enjoyed doing that stuff.

Tomorrow the Parsonage Committee is doing a walk-thru at 1:00 pm, can you hear me jump for joy? Not. I'm not really stressed about it, I cleaned house over the weekend and yesterday so it's not too bad, just needs a little "pick-up" attention. I'm in such a blah mood. Yuck. Deep down, I think Camille is acting out/up whatever because she's going to her dad's this weekend. This tends to happen when she's about to leave.

Hugs and cyber m&m's coming you way - and lots of both! I am sorry your day was crummy and I hope tomorrow is in infinitely better. Thanks for being so authentic and sharing not only the good but the not-so-good too.

Blessings to you,

I like the reminder CJ Mahaney gives to his wife and daughters (from Girl Talk), "Only God gets His 'To Do' list done".
Thanks for sharing about your rough day, I appreciate your honesty. Praise God we are saved by His work and perfect righteousness, and not our own! May you rest in that truth.

Oh I can so sympathize. I could have written this post myself. I send you hugs! I do want to say I so appreciate your blog. I have gleaned so much from it. Thanks for being so transparent. Here's to a better day tomorrow!

I had a similar day last week - it took 7.5 hours for him to write "fat," "fill," and "fan." And that was the only handwriting I asked of #2 for the day (he's five, and he's a boy - his fine motor skills are coming slowly). Then next day, he started racing the timer to get his work done, knowing that he has enough time to do it correctly and neatly if he just does it. It worked like a charm - for the moment. It was a Holy Spirit-inspired idea, and I'm NOT taking any credit for it. But it worked.

I hope tomorrow is better for both of you.

We're trying to get my first grader's five little book reports done before school starts next week, and I have so much respect for you real home schoolers! She ended up losing all her privileges and treats and all her points for the day and getting spanked besides. And I'm sitting here with chest pain not knowing what I'm doing wrong that is allowing such defiance to take deep root in my little girl. We all need grace and wisdom....

Sorry you've had such a rough day. It's good to know I'm not the only one! As far as Camille having a bad day, don't we all! I try to remember that when my kids have a particularly bad day. We all have a day now and then when we need a change of pace. As a matter of fact, when my oldest is in one of those moods, he much prefers to do chores to schoolwork! I've learned to let him :) The day of manual labor (scrubbing the tub, pulling weeds, etc.) seems to be just what he craves. The next day he's great! Since it seems to happen when she's about to leave for her dad's, why not plan a different kind of day everytime that week comes (and hopefully cut off her attitude at the pass). Maybe switch your Friday before the week she ususally has her problems to Monday the following week? Don't really know if this would work for you. I'd just keep in mind that she's probably in need of a little more TLC during those times. Schoolwork will get done eventually, a yearning heart will become bruised if not addressed.

Good luck tomorrow!
