Phasing into 2nd Grade

Tick, tock, tick, tock- our break is about over! Over than putting our house back into order from the floor installation, we are ready for 2nd grade. I think the freedom of our break is going to highlight some behavior issues such as complaining and possibly whining so we're going to phase in slowly over 3 weeks.

Week One (start day is July 23rd, 7/23-7/27)

Day One Particulars
Review house rules and scriptures that accompany them.
Discuss Daily Nobility Record.
Discuss Daily Folder system.
Discuss educational goals with Camille.

Week One
Bible: start Explorer's Bible Study Jesus, My Shepherd. Review all memorized scriptures.
Math: Review all math facts, all week. Play games and start on Horizons 2 lessons.
Independent Reading: continue reading 1-2 books a day depending on length and difficulty, record in Reading Log.
First Language Lessons: review lessons 90-100 of level 1 this week, review all memorized poetry.
History: review SOTW1 as a read aloud (only) this week

Week Two
Bible: continue as normal with Bible lesson
Math: continue as normal with Horizons lesson
Independent Reading: continue reading 1-2 books a day depending on length and difficulty, record in Reading Log.
First Language Lessons: Start Level 2 unless more review is needed.
Add: History and Science this week.

Week Three
Bible: continue as normal with Bible lesson
Math: continue as normal with Horizons lesson
Independent Reading: continue reading 1-2 books a day depending on length and difficulty, record in Reading Log.
First Language Lessons: normal lesson
History/Science: normal lesson
Add: French, Music Appreciation and Spelling.

By Week 4, we should be in full swing! Hopefully with our little battles behind us. From now until July 23rd, we're working on developing our household schedules into habit, we may still be forming these habits when our lessons start but it wouldn't be as hard as starting our lessons and household schedules together. We'll start getting up early without tv beginning July 16th. We've already looked through our books and notebooks and we're both ready to start- we just have her 7th birthday and a few more things we want to do- like go swimming! Our lessons will be from 7:30 am to 12:00 noon, so we won't really be losing out on beautiful summer days, it'll just be later before we start to enjoy them.

By the way, if Camille wants to do the other subjects before we phase them in, we will!

Jessica we're starting July 23rd too! I can't find where you posted your house rules with scripture. Could you point me in the right direction?

You are so organized! I am ususally preped and ready to go for next year by now. We have moved twice in the last six months. This week we did nothing but what we wanted. The pool was the focus. It's almost scarey to me how little I care about being on the ball right now...I am so tired. Maybe you can throw some of your creative orderly juices my way LOL!

It's so good to know someone else is starting their schoolyear before August! Everyone I know is shocked we're starting the last week in July. I keep explaining that the first two weeks are very light, and we'll be done each day well before lunchtime. We also take a week off every 6 weeks, and this way we'll be done by Memorial Day, plus get a family vacation to Tennessee in. That doesn't seem to help their shock, though :) !
