I've wanted to post this since I found some of these websites. I'll be adding them to the sidebar on the left but I want to 'highlight' them now. Don't forget to get your own Peculiar Aristocratic Name that is two posts down, and if you have an Junior Deluxe Editions on your shelf, I'm collecting them (read about it four posts down). So without further ado...
If you're new to homeschooling or you like reading articles, this is the best compliation of information I've seen. This is a page I wish I would have found when I first started. http://www.asahi-net.or.jp/~ja8i-brtl/articlesDatabase.html

That's all I have time for today. I have more and I'll post them soon. Most of these have been shared by other homeschoolers at message boards or I have found them googling for a particular subject. A homeschooler requested some links so I thought I would post them here. Most of these will find a home in my left sidebar.

Good links - esp the history book list. I'll have to check out some more of them later.
I have a question for you: Are you planning to cover US history strictly chronologically or are you going to do a year or a unit of US History? I am wavering between the two options - and I'm sure there are more than two.
I can't get to your blog for some reason. Is it on privacy mode?
U.S. History, I plan on supplementing SOTW, SOTW will be our spine and I'm using A Child's Story of America to supplement. If I feel the SOTW3 is too light in U.S. History, I'll do US History alongside World History for a while.
So to answer your question, chronologically and a semi-type of unit study if I feel I 'need' to. We'll start US History at the end of SOTW2.
I hope this helps, I have a feeling it doesn't. : )
I think it works now - thoughtfulmom.blogspot.com
It isn't all there, yet. I am going to move a few things over from HSB and dual post for a bit to see which I prefer. I'm not just completely thrilled with either.
On the US History - it sounds like you are in the wait-and-see mode.
I'm trying to decide exactly what to do next year. Drew will be ready for first grade phonics and math, but he'll just be five and I'm not quite ready to start Grammar 1 with him yet. I'm looking at either a year of geography (Galloping the globe or Winter promise) or a year of US history (WP or MFW) or MFW 1st grade.
Since I'll have a newborn and a toddler, a packaged program is tempting, but I bet I do enough altering and adding that it isn't worth the money.
The junior classics are abridged versions of the stories, sometimes leaving out the best parts, as they have to, so I prefer the Everyman's collection, but it's fun to collect anyway!
ThoughtfulMom,
I think a year of Galloping the Globe would be a lot of fun! I'd leave American History until you study it chronologically. I think a year of geography would pay off more so, plus isn't there an animal study in GTG?
If you're sure you don't want to start the history cycle, I would definitely go with GTG!
Dear anonymous,
I couldn't find any information to validate that the Junior Deluxe Editions are abridged editions.
The books themselves do not indicate this and I couldn't find any information about it online. If you have a source, do you mind directing my attention to it?
And we may be talking about different books, I'm talking about Junior Deluxe Editions by Doubleday published in the 1950's not the Junior Classics.
Kindly,
Jessica
