We used these for memorization and copywork until Camille was able to tell me what each rule is. I didn't require her to memorize the scriptures yet because some of them are long. This has been very effective in our home. The only rule I've been thinking of adding is Nobody is having fun if everybody isn't having fun. I have to work on that because the grammar isn't correct.

2. Keep your promises
3. Keep your expectations in check
4. Walk away when frustrated and collect yourself before responding
5. Make sure discipline/punishment fits the "crime"
6. Drink coffee, eat chocolate daily

Thanks for these. I recently made a household management notebook, and added a section called rules. I had no idea what exactly i was going to put there. I knew it needed to be Scripture based, though. This gets the ideas flowing.
Jessica,
I think these are wonderful!!

You have handy rules! I'm going to borrow your list and modify it for our household. We'll definately be keep that very last rule. Mommy must have coffee and chocolate at least once daily.
Thanks for the bloglines suggestion - I set it up and I love it. :)
I'd better get my sweet baby down for his nap. Oh my! He just crawled out of his pants!
I need to copy and print that out! it's great!
Those look great Jessica!!
Hi Jessica, I have just recently started moving to blogspot too. I would like to link your site. I will also be following the Iliad discussion, even if I don't post. It is good to be back in touch!
Peace,
Sandie

Thanks for visiting me!

Hope you are having a great week.
I have been missing you :)

Thank you for sharing these! They are exactly what I've been looking for.
Love your house rules! They are great for the sake of CONSISTENCY forthe kids.
I wanted to share what we have been using to help us be consistent also. Doorposts (www.doorposts.net) has nice charts that you can fill in your own consequence/reward for certain actions from the kids in the 'Blessings' chart and the 'If/Then' chart. This way our kids know that if they disobey, the punishment will be the same every time and when they use gracious, kind speach (i.e.), the reward will also be the same. We also like the "Brother-Offended Checklist" which helps us keep sibling fighting in check according to scriptures, so we don't end up just playing referree as the parents. Hope you have a chance to look at this on the web!

Oh WOW! I love it. I've always wanted a list of house rules with scripture to back it up and I just haven't gotten around to it. I think it's high time I get to work. Again I'm totally inspired. Thanks
I know this is an old post of yours, but I found it in a Google search when I was looking for some inspiration for OUR house rules. I have a 5 yr old and 3 yr old, and these are perfect! Thanks for taking the time to post. I'm so glad your list came up first...now I'm off to write them on poster board. Thanks again!
I know this is an OLD post but I just found in a desparate search of where to start in making a house rules list for my 6 and 4 year old. I wish I had started this sooner. I appreciate the time an effort you put into this. It is so helpful. God Bless you and your family

Thanks for this post. My husband is in Afghanistan and I feel like I'm completely losing control over my home. I know God is supposed to be in control, not me, but as the one who is supposed to guide them in His ways, I'm just overran. This is exactly what I was looking for to help take back the guidance role so He can start to take control.
