Monarch Caterpillar Progress

This was on Sept. 24th. the smallest one, see it on the leaf in the center?

One week later (Oct. 2nd) and many milkweed leaves later...the small one is now in the center. The larger one is on the left- this picture will enlarge if you click on it. It is so amazing to watch! I know there is a chance they will never be monarch butterflies but we are very blessed to be able to experience this.

October 3rd: The larger caterpillar left the plant in the early afternoon and we are unable to locate it. October 5th: The smaller one left the plant. We will not be able to watch them transform. Dh thinks a bird ate them but I suspect they left to form their chrysalis.

What a great opportunity! I don't think I've ever seen monarch caterpillars.

I have to agree that I don't think I have ever seen these. Are they really that big or do they just appear large because of the angle of the camera shot? Very interesting.
