Menu Planning

I'm going take our current meals that I like to make and my family likes to eat and write them on index cards (cut in half). But it has to be 14 different meals and 4 wild cards. The wild cards will be eating out or trying a new recipe. I'm going to put the cards in a hat/bag (whatever) and have my children "draw" our dinners for the week.

I have to grocery shop once a month so we'll do it for the month. I'll just have to arrange the meals so we don't have repeats or anything to similar back to back like lasagna and spaghetti.

that's my idea so far.

What a great idea! Here's an idea so you won't repeat similar items: Use different colored index cards for the same types of foods. For example, if you have a lot of pasta recipes, put those on pink cards, mexican could go on yellow, fish could go on green, etc. Then you just pick one of each color for the week.

Cute Idea. This is great for helping teach life-skills such as cooking and grocery stocking to little ones (while keeping it fun). I also include my kids in menu planning. We normally sit down at the table and I list off a few choices and see what sounds good to them. Or they flip through my recipe binder and show me what they want. I also have a cooking blog where I keep my favorites. My daughter suggested "Chili's Chicken Enchilada Soup" today and I cooked it for lunch (since Daddy's big meal with us is Lunch and he works until midnight most nights). I'm posting the recipe for it on my blog tomorrow.

My recipe blog is www.gatheringmanna.blogspot.com - and it has tons of stuff that is quick and easy (as well as some more international and time-consuming meals). Enjoy!
