Perks

Putting the kids in school next year has been heavy on my heart lately. Camille will be in 4th and Danny in K. I just don't know if I'll be able to handle college, work and homeschooling. I've been thinking about how to make it work including trimming curricula where needed and I've been doubting lately whether it's worth it.

Then...
Yesterday, Camille and I went to the mall at 9:30 am to do a little shopping, had a quiet lunch and went to pick up Danny from school. No crowds, it was a pleasant time for both of us.

Today, I took both kids kite flying. Kite flying. Something that as a mom, I want to do with the kids but don't take the time, and I know I wouldn't if they were in school. It would be get up, get ready for school, school, come home, do homework, eat dinner, get ready for bed, get up...so today as I ran around a field trying to help both kids get their respective kites in the air, I realized...

I do not want to miss this. I will do anything to keep this. (Sniff, sniff)

Jessica, I am so sorry about all of this. I will keep praying for you. I understand you need to go back to work to help make ends meet but I guess I am wondering if college is important right now. You don't need to share or justify yourself. I respect you and will keep praying for God to lead you and give you wisdom with all of this. Much hugs and love!

Jessica, you have been quite an inspiration to me and I love your blog. I really hope you can continue with your homeschooling!

Have you thought about using a charter school that offers an independent study option? I don't live in your area, but in my county there are a few public and private charter schools that offer classes a couple times a week and then you do the rest of your schooling at home. You might not be able to pick the exact curriculum you want to use, but at least you could still benefit from some of the "perks" of doing school at home while giving yourself some time to get your schooling and work in. I considered doing something like this when I thought I was going to go back to school last year.

I hope you find a solution that works!

Jessica, what a beautiful post and a wonderful reminder that it's the simple things, the little things, that bring us joy. I just want to encourage you and to tell you that "you" were meant to homeschool these children. You do it sooooo well, and you make us think that we can do this too!

Much Love,

Dee in Sunny FL!

I completely hear what you are saying!!! Right now we are trying to sell our house due to the economy and sometimes I wonder should I put them in school for a short time and work but I know what happens when that happens so for now I am trusting GOD to guide me. I have been doing photoshoots for people on the weekends it's not the same as going back and finishing nursing school but that's ok.
My MIL told when at the time I made the choice not to finish the nursing classes that kids are only with us for a short time but school is always there.

I pray that you do what's best for you and your family. I think you do a wonderful job at homeschooling!!!

Good for you. I know you'll be able to figure it all out--you've got a good head on your shoulders and a heart.

BIG HUG!

It took you one afternoon to learn what it took my putting my boys in school a year and a half to learn!!! When they are in school you miss so much and even though the quiet time, free time, time to yourself or whatever else you want to call it looks good to start with you lose so much in the end!!!

And I know you don't know me but I am still going to say...YOU CAN DO THIS! YOU CAN BE MOMMY, TEACHER, STUDENT, AND WORK!!!!

Absolutely my thoughts with mine as well. You can do it, Jessica. It may take some tweaking with things but it is definitely doable. Praying for you, Sis.

I just recently found your blog. . .and I do sooo wish that I had found it earlier!! You are an inspiration to so many.

I, too, have had to consider my options because of the economy and my husband's unemployment. I even applied for a teaching position in our local school system this past fall. But, graciously, God provided a job for my husband about a month ago so the "need" for me to work right now is not as crucial.

I know the struggle is hard, and the emotions run high when the money runs low. I'll be sending up prayers on your behalf in the coming days and weeks. His grace is sufficient.

Jessica you are brave to share so much online. I can feel that you are upset.

(((Hugs)))

I'll send you a private email later when I have a bit more time to be in front of the computer.

Jessica,

As a mom that works part-time out of the home AND goes to college fulltime AND homeschools, I can understand completely where you are coming from. It isn't easy - I can't gloss over that. My mom has asked me why I don't give myself a break by putting the kids in school next year, and my answer is that of the three, homeschooling is the MOST important. Yes, I do have to work to make ends meet here, so I do that in the evenings.

Feel free to email me if you would like to "chat" about this!
